Religion School

Our lively Saturday morning Religion School provides Jewish education for children aged 5 to 15, including study for Bar/Bat mitzvah and Kabbalat Torah. We welcome children where either parent is Jewish.

Our Religion School morning is divided between Jewish Studies and Hebrew. While our Jewish Studies classes are based on age, our Hebrew classes are grouped according to knowledge.  We use the three year rolling Liberal Judaism curriculum for Jewish Studies which provides our students with a grounding in Jewish life and thought including Torah texts and what they teach us today, festivals, lifecycle events, ethical teachings and much more.  Once a month, our Religion School morning includes participation by pupils and parents in a Family Service which the pupils help to lead.

We also offer a toddler programme each week of Religion School which introduces children aged up to 5 years to Hebrew and to other aspects of Jewish life.

Our resources include a good range of books and a dedicated computer suite with Hebrew and Jewish educational software for student use.

Jewish Museum Trip September 2011

We had a lovely day out at the Jewish Museum at the beginning of the term. The day started with a shofar blowing workshop in which several of our group were successful in getting notes out of the shofar. Kizzy and Zack were nominated to blow the shofar in the children's Rosh Hashanah services later in the week.

We then enjoyed exploring the museum where we learned about Jewish life in Britain in the past and in the present with exhibits from Oliver Cromwell allowing the Jews back into the country to one about the late Jewish pop star, Amy Winehouse. The children were able to dress up and enjoyed the many interactive exhibits. After the museum we all walked to Regents Park where we had a lovely sunshiny picnic lunch before returning to south London in the afternoon.
