Siyyum HaTorah

Our scroll once belonged to the Jewish community of Kolin in the Czech Republic, and it's restoration renews a promise we made on our acquiring it in 1975 to preserve and honour the memory of the 2202 Jews deported in 1942 from Kolin to the Nazi death camps. Just 104 of these men, women and children survived the War, and today no survivors remain. This precious scroll, entrusted to us by The Memorial Scrolls Trust, represents the hopes and dreams of these people, all of them our brothers and sisters, and that is the significance this day had for us.

We thank the NLPS Trust from Progressive Judaism for their generosity, all others who have contributed towards our scroll's restoration and Torah Scribe, Avielah Barclay, for her skilled and dedicated repair work, the completion of which you can see in our gallery on the right.
