Past EventsThursday 27 January was Holocaust Memorial Day Our choir singing at Lambeth Town Hall:
This annual event commemorates not only those who died in Nazi persecutions, but those who suffered in other genocides. On Saturday 29 January our Guest Preacher, Rabbi Dr Michael Shire, Vice-Principal of Leo Baeck College spoke about the work of Leo Baeck, who stayed with his congregation in Germany during the holocaus, was in Theriesenstadt, and kept his faith in goodness. The previous Sunday, we joined others at Lambeth Town Hall to mark the event. Our young people were among those who read, and the choir sang. One of the songs was Eli, Eli by Hannah Senesh, a Hungarian Jew who left for what was then the British Mandate in 1939, but returned to train with the British airforce. She was parachuted into Yugoslavia to join the partisans, was captured and executed.
Eli, Eli
Oh God, my God, I pray that these things never end;
